Well, it has been one week since we completed the build on the display tank. Constantly adjusting equipment to get things exactly how we want it right now.
Wade, from The Coral Merchant, gave an awesome presentation to the classes last Monday before he had to head back to Michigan (and back to his full-time job). They learned a lot and I think that it may have turned some kids from focusing on fish to taking more of an interest in corals (my personal favorite of reef tanks).
Speaking of fish, our 1st shipment is due to be sent out tomorrow and we should have fish in the quarantine tank sometime Tuesday. All of our livestock is supplied by Quality Marine who is one of the biggest providers of marine life worldwide. We have Skyped with Cindy, their Marine Biologist once already, and should be due for another meeting soon after we get to observe which fish she sends 1st. This will be a process that will take a few months to get through. We can only add our fish a few at a time and they need to be quarantined so they can be treated for any illness or stress before being introduced to the display tank. I am happy that the students will be able to see some "visible" life before they leave us here in a few weeks.
I will be adding some more research the students have done on different types of coral tomorrow. I will get some pictures of our 1st fish when I get them acclimated and into the display tank. This is going to be an exciting week...we will make sure that it is a good one!
