This is turning out to be a great end to the week! After a couple of delays...Cindy from Quality Marine had her flight delayed, hence our shipment of fish did not get sent out on Monday. She sent them on Tuesday only to have the fish get delayed in Minneapolis because of weather. I received them today, 48 hours after being sent from Los Angeles.
Upon opening the box, things did not look good. The heat packs had all run out, all of the fish had lost their coloring, and they were all laying on their sides with gills barely moving. I immediately set their bags into the aquarium. That is all it took! In about 15 minutes their coloring was coming back and all of the fish started to get active. Being they were in bags for so long, I opted to go with a very slow acclimation. I separated the fish by species, started their drip lines, and got the bags opened and placed the fish in their respective containers. They sat in drip acclimation for nearly 5 hours. I released them into the QT tank after that and they became very active. I am very happy that things turned out and we did not lose a single fish! I went back to school to feed them for the 1st time and were they hungry! They ate very well! A huge thanks goes out to Quality Marine for raising and selecting such hardy fish!
I will take more photos to post for the website tomorrow! If you would like to view some videos, click the Facebook symbol to the left under the page list or search for Classroom Coral on Facebook. This has been a long but fulfilling day. Make tomorrow great!
