I spoke with Cindy, a Marine Biologist from Quality Marine, and she had us come up with a wish list of fish for our tank. The students have been working on this research for a while now. We put everything together in a slideshow so all of the 5th grade classes could vote for their favorites. Their research contained if the fish were compatible with each other, if they were reef compatible, minimum tank size, and how big they could become.
Here is the list:
1.Orange/Red Spot Blenny
2. Ocellaris clownfish (Pair if possible)
3. Blue green chromis (They are wondering about the #)
4. Flame angel
5. Yellow tang
6. Watchman Goby
The kids are also interested if Cindy had any suggestions for us. The students will get to talk to her, ask questions, and get a reef keeping 101 from her next Thursday afternoon when we get together for a Skype meeting!
More research will start tomorrow on what types of coral they would like to add. The corals will more than likely not happen while these kids are still in school, as you want the tank stable and established before adding too much...looking 3-6 months down the road.
Exciting things coming up. We are awaiting the arrival of our huge pallet which should be here sometime Wednesday. This is also when our live rock will arrive and we will get that cycling as soon as it comes in. Then it is Easter break and we will be awaiting the arrival of Wade from the Coral Merchant who is flying out to help us set up. I will hopefully get a bunch of progress pictures and maybe a few videos as we get everything set up. He will then give a presentation to all 3 fifth grade classes on Monday before we fill the tank and get everything officially started.
This is the last call for anyone that would like to help us out with the last of our items. Visit thecoralmerchant.com/product-category/classroom-coral/
to see what is left. Also give us a like on our Facebook page: Classroom Coral.
That's all I have for tonight. I would like to thank everyone again for all of their generosity and support with this project. We really are making a bunch of 5th graders dreams come true. Remember, make it a great day...everyday!
